Nitin Raut: Maharashtra To Purchase Additional Power From CGPL, Gujarat

| Updated: April 8, 2022 16:13

Maharashtra Government is all set to purchase power from Gujarat to ensure smooth supply of electricity in the state. Energy Minister of Maharashtra Nitin Raut on Friday said that the state government will purchase power from the neighborhood power surplus state of Gujarat.

The additional requirement of power in the summer season has prompted the Maharashtra Government to purchase power from Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL). This agreement of Maharashtra Government with wholly owned subsidiary of Tata power will help avoid a major problem of load shedding in the state.

At present there is a shortfall of 1500 MW power in the state of Maharashtra and that gap between demand and supply is set to rise with summer. It is estimated that demand of power will touch 30,000 MW in the state.

Important to note here is that the Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL Mundra) has a 4150-megawatt supercritical coal-fired power plant located near the port city of Mundra in Gujarat.
