| Updated: March 12, 2024 12:06

Twenty-two statements so far indicate PI’s link to tragic incident

The city police have the statements of 22 people holding police inspector B.K. Khachar of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) responsible for a doctor’s suicide last Wednesday.  Surprisingly, no FIR has been filed as yet.

Police sources said that the victim, Dr Vaishali Joshi, was in a relationship with Khachar. He  was at the annual sports meet of the city police when the suicide occurred and left the event after he came to know about the incident. The suicide occurred on the city crime branch premises.

The police have taken statements from the victim’s relatives, flatmates, and EOW cops. All the statements point to the involvement of Khachar in the incident. The statements of Joshi’s mother and sisters are yet to be recorded.

Moreover, a detailed postmortem report stating the cause of death is pending. Police sources say a team will be sent to the victim’s house in Kheda and a complaint is likely to be filed after that.

According to senior police officers, Joshi and Khachar were in a relationship for around five years. They had differences and Khachar broke up with her leading to her becoming depressed. Her suicide note said she ended her life because of the break-up.

Joshi was found dead on a bench in the Gaekwad Haveli compound, where the city crime branch, EOW and Gaekwad Haveli police station, are located.

Sources said she had been coming to the crime branch campus every day for two weeks prior to her death seeking to meet Khachar. On March 6, when Khachar did not meet her, she injected poison and died. Gaekwad Haveli police have registered a complaint of accidental death.
