No Reports of Skin Diseases After Maha Kumbh Dip, Says UP Dy CM

| Updated: March 2, 2025 14:06

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Brajesh Pathak on Saturday said that no cases of skin diseases had been reported among pilgrims who took a dip in the holy Sangam during the Maha Kumbh.

Speaking at the inauguration of a private event in Lucknow, Pathak addressed concerns raised by Opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, who claimed that several pilgrims had fallen ill after bathing in the Sangam.

In response, Pathak commended the cleanliness measures in place, stating, “Despite the immense number of pilgrims, no cases of skin diseases were reported,” as per a press statement.

He highlighted the purity of the Ganga and the effectiveness of sanitation efforts during the event.

The deputy chief minister also spoke about the cultural significance of the Maha Kumbh, describing it as “a global symbol of India and Indianness.” He said the festival brought together people from all walks of life, including industrialists and villagers, without distinctions of wealth or caste.

Pathak reflected on the historical challenges faced by India’s cultural heritage, referencing attacks on ancient centres of learning such as Takshila and Nalanda, as well as invasions by the Mughals and the British.

He said India’s culture had endured despite these efforts and continued to inspire the world.

“In our culture, man is considered superior, and even animals and trees are regarded as part of our family. The entire creation is our family, and this is the essence of Sanatan,” he said.

The Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, concluded on February 26.
