Threats and attacks against celebrities are increasing alarmingly, with comedian Kapil Sharma recently receiving a death threat via email that was reportedly sent from Pakistan. The police have initiated an investigation after an FIR was registered with the Amboli Police against an unknown individual under Section 351(3) of the BNS.
The email included a threat message, which stated: “We are monitoring your recent activities, and we believe it is important to bring to your attention a sensitive matter. This is not a publicity stunt or an attempt to harass you; we urge you to treat this message with the utmost seriousness and confidentiality.”
The email was signed off as ‘BISHNU.’
Further details are awaited regarding what the sender means by “sensitive matter.”
The police report that the sender demanded a response within eight hours, warning that failure to comply would lead to consequences on both personal and professional fronts.
Other public figures, including actress and playback singer Sugandha Mishra and cinematographer Remo D’Souza have also filed complaints with the police after receiving similar intimidating emails.
In a related incident, actor Rajpal Yadav received a threat email on December 14 last year, which he reported to the police. This email was discovered in his spam folder.
Recently, mafias have been targeting Indian public figures, particularly those from the entertainment industry.
Last week, an intruder, traced back to Bangladesh, attacked actor Saif Ali Khan at his home in Bandra, stabbing him six times. According to reports, doctors had to remove a 2.5-inch knife blade from his body.
Salman Khan has been receiving death threats as well, prompting him to beef up his security at his residence and install bulletproof windows on his balcony.
The murder of politician Baba Siddique, which was claimed by the gang of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was the most horrific incident in recent times.
