Gujarat: Ahmedabad Hospitals Breathe A Sigh Of Relief As 90% Beds Remain Vacant

| Updated: January 24, 2022 12:23

Even though Ahmedabad touched 6,000 cases on Sunday, the city hospitals were under no stress. The number of beds got decreased by 33 per cent and yet the vacancy was 90 per cent.

While at the beginning of May last year, the city was recording daily cases in the range of 5,000-6,000 similar to the present range, but the hospitals were flooded with patients.

The Civil hospital saw major queues of people outside while the private hospitals had to set up a system so that the patients don’t die waiting for beds
and the reason was – about 90 per cent of the available beds were full.

To this, a senior city-based hospital administrator said that the primary reason for this to happen is the omicron variant’s tendency to not target the lungs. Today, patients come out of the infection only after 3-4 days with mild symptoms which was not the case last year.
