Police: Only Five Applications Submitted For New Year Parties In Ahmedabad

| Updated: December 29, 2022 10:55

With New Year just two days away, party revellers in Ahmedabad are gearing into festive mode. Theme parties, dance floors and night clubs are known to be hotspots for ushering in the New Year. However, according to sources in Ahmedabad Police, so far, the police commissioner’s office is in receipt of only five applications for approval.

The licensing division attributes the low numbers to an unsurety hovering on the covid front. “It seems the lurking around of Covid SOPs have forced most to alter their plans. Had the parties been planned and then the government were to announce the curbs and restrictions, would have led to a huge loss for event management firms,” reasoned insiders.

Even with Covid still around last year, officials recalled nearly 100 plus applications submitted at the office. “But permission was granted for only 65 events,” added the official.

This year too, breathalysers and metal detectors have been made mandatory at all entry booths into the events. The five parties span different locations throughout the city. Organisers have been instructed to adhere to guidelines. CCTV cameras, as well as cameras with night vision, are required to be installed in various points at the venue. The CCTV recordings will have to be kept for a month.
