The 2-day monsoon session has started in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly which started off with a question and answers session that lasted for 1 hour.

The government received a raucous response to continuing price hikes and hurricanes by the opposition leaders in the Legislative Assembly. Opposition leaders also called for a boycott of the new government reckoning these issues.

Peanut oil, cottonseed, and palm oil price hikes in a year

The Legislative Assembly was asked about the price hike in groundnut oil, cottonseed oil, and palm oil in the last year to which the government reverted saying the price of groundnut oil has gone up by Rs 18 per kg in one year, cottonseed oil by Rs 32 per kg in one year, and palm oil by Rs 19 per kg in one year.

The government acknowledged the concerns regarding the increase in oil prices and provided the opposition with reasons like shortage of raw materials, labor problems, transportation difficulties.

Congress MLA Gyasuddin Sheikh said, ” Congress had organised a yatra across the state to provide Rs 4 lakh to the families who lost their members due to Covid-19.”

Sheikh along with Congress MLA Imran Khedawala was observed protesting on the premises wearing banners and doctor’s aprons demanding Rs 4 lakh of financial assistance to Covid’s deceased family. A tight police cordon was also set up inside and outside the assembly in anticipation of possible Congress protests, while vehicles heading to the assembly were also been checked.
