The Gujarat Police caught over 200 illegal Bangladeshis in last 100 hours, said minister of state for home Harsh Sanghavi.
The minister posted on X on Thursday that further action for deportation is underway.
Sanghavi congratulated the police for the strict action against “inflitrators and ensuring national security”.
This is Gujarat Police’s second crackdown on illegal Bangladeshis in last last three months. The first crackdown had happened soon after the Pahalgam attack in which the terrorists had gunned down 26 tourists.
Thereafter, in an operation that was carried out in two phases, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation demolished illegal structures around the Chandola lake in Ahmedabad. A large number of illegal Bangladeshis were also deported. Apart from illegal Bangaladeshis, people from other parts of the country also stayed there.
Under full police protection during the two operations, the AMC had also demolished properties owned by one Lalla Bihari alias Mehmood Pathan. He was allegedly helping the residents to get fake identity cards and ran a fleet of autorickshaws. Bihari and his son were arrested by the police. Bihari is also alleged to have been forcing needy women into prostitution.
The AMC will provide homes under various schemes to those who have been staying near Chandola before December 1, 2010. One of the conditions is that the combined family income should be below Rs 3 lakh.
