The Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj has witnessed an unprecedented influx of devotees at the sacred confluence of the River Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. Sages, saints, Kalpvasis, and pilgrims from across the country and abroad have gathered in large numbers to take part in the religious festivities and perform the holy dip.
On the occasion of Basant Panchami’s Amrit Snan, the total number of bathers since the commencement of Mahakumbh has surpassed 350 million (35 crores), according to an official statement from the administration.
By 8 am on Monday, 6.2 million devotees had taken a dip at Triveni Sangam. With 23 days remaining, officials expect the total count to exceed 500 million.
The religious congregation continues to draw millions daily. On Sunday, around 12 million devotees participated in the ritual, pushing the total count close to 350 million, which was surpassed on Monday morning. Among them were one million Kalpvasis, saints, and devotees from around the world.
A breakdown of attendance figures shows the highest single-day turnout was recorded on Mauni Amavasya, with 80 million devotees bathing at the Sangam. Other significant bathing days included Makar Sankranti, which saw 35 million devotees, over 20 million on January 30 and February 1, and 17 million on Paush Purnima.
Several prominent figures have participated in the holy dip, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was accompanied by cabinet members.
The administration has implemented extensive security measures and logistical arrangements to manage the large crowds.
