Pan Nalin’s Gujarati Film ‘Chello Show’ Wins Golden Spike Award At Valladolid International Film Festival

Pan Nalin’s Gujarati-language film ‘Chello Show’ aka ‘Last Film Show’ won the Golden Spike Award for the Best Picture at the 66th Valladolid International Film Festival in Spain. Co-produced between India and France, the film was part of the festival’s official selections. 

The film is based on a young boy – Samay who falls in love with the medium of Cinema after watching his first film in a theatre. The character, Samay is based on Pan Nalin himself. Set in a rural village of Saurashtra, the film’ features Richa Meena, Bhavesh Shrimali, Rahul Koli, Bhavin Rabari, Tia Sebastian, Vijay Mer, Dipen Raval, Shobhan Makwana, Kishan Parmar and Vikas Bata.  

‘Chhello Show’ has been the second Indian movie to win the award in the last four decades. ‘Kharij’ by Mrinal Sen was the first film to win the award in 1983. 

Notably, ‘Chello Show’ was premiered at the Tribeca Festival in June this year and bagged the second prize at the festival’s Audience Awards. 

Valladolid International Film Festival, which is also known as Seminci, is one of the oldest and largest festivals of Spain. The Silver Spike as well as the Audience Award was won by Neus Ballús’s Spanish film Sis Dies Corrents (Odd-Job Men).  The October was held from October 23 to October 30, 2021.
