Patel To Hussian To Nowhere: How Gujarat Man’s Identity Swap Ended In Deportation

| Updated: March 3, 2025 13:15

AC Patel from Gujarat had a brief moment of fame. For a fleeting second, he was no longer AC Patel, but Mohammad Najir Hussain from Pakistan. But as anyone who’s ever tried on a new persona knows, it’s not quite as glamorous when the world finds out you’re not who you claim to be.

Patel, in his infinite wisdom, decided to forge a Pakistani passport in Hussain’s name, hoping to sneak past US authorities and make his way to America. Unfortunately for him, the US border control proved too smart to be deceived. Patel’s big moment as Hussain came crashing down when American officials saw through the elaborate charade. He was unceremoniously sent back to India and landed in Delhi on February 12, via flight AA-292, courtesy of the US government.

This latest misadventure comes amid a heightened crackdown on undocumented immigrants in the US, which has only intensified since Donald Trump began his new term. In fact, in the past month alone, three flights packed with deported Indians—74 of them from Gujarat—have been sent back to India. It seems Patel wasn’t the only one getting the boot.

But Patel’s troubles didn’t end there. Upon arrival in Delhi, police were waiting for him, ready with a pile of charges, including cheating by impersonation and misuse of passport. But the real kicker? The Pakistani passport he was carrying wasn’t just a run-of-the-mill fake—it was an actual lost passport belonging to Hussain. Talk about a rookie mistake.

Cornered, Patel admitted to paying an agent in Dubai to craft this new life for him. In exchange for a hefty fee, Patel swapped his Gujarat roots for a Pakistani identity, all in the hopes of getting a flight to the US. His real passport had expired back in 2016, and instead of renewing it, Patel decided to take the shortcut—courtesy of some shady traffickers and a forged passport.

In the end, Patel’s grand plan was as well-thought-out as a house of cards in a windstorm. His attempt to live the high life as Mohammad Najir Hussain lasted about as long as a pop-up ad, and now he’s facing the consequences of trying to travel a little too far from his roots.
