PM Modi to Virtually Inaugurate Redevelopment of Gujarat’s Largest Railway Station

| Updated: February 24, 2024 15:15

Prime Minister Narendrabhai Modi is set to virtually perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the redevelopment of Kalupur Railway Station, the largest railway station in Gujarat, on February 26. The new station, which will replace the old one, is designed on the theme of the Modhra Sun temple of Mahesana.

The redevelopment project aims to transform the station into an ultra-modern transport hub akin to an airport. With a target completion time of 36 months, preliminary tasks such as surveys and relocation are already underway at the existing station. The redevelopment plan also includes the construction of an elevated road network, connecting the Kalupur and Sarangpur bridges, 10 meters above the ground. The plans have been designed keeping in mind the projected traffic and passenger scope for the year 2060.

The new multi-modal transport hub will feature a 16-story building with two basements. The first six floors will be dedicated to parking, while the fourth and fifth floors will house railway offices. The remaining floors will be equipped with passenger facilities. A concourse, situated 10 meters above the ground level, will provide access to the bullet train station and metro station.

The 35-acre project has separate designs for arrival and departure areas. The redevelopment works will be carried out in phases, considering the importance of Kalupur as the main railway station of Gujarat.
