Police Case Against 5 Channels for Spreading Fake News

| Updated: July 10, 2022 11:35

3 local news channels and two Youtube channels have been booked for spreading fake news about terrorism at Rath Yatra in Deesa. The channels had posted videos on Youtube with the caption “Terrorists attack Rathyatra”, “Attack on Rath Yatra” etc, these channels had also spread misinformation that there was a huge damage incurred in a fire. Out of the 5, three are local channels from Deesa, while one is from Ahmedabad and one is from Bhavnagar.

The complaint was filed by wireless police sub-inspector KK Modi on Friday. In order to prevent further fake news and rumors to protect public safety, cybercrime officials are supervising social media where pictures, messages and tweets are being posted.

These channels had falsely claimed that 20 people were injured and two children were crushed. Sources say that no such incident had happened and these channels had only spread fake news in order to create terror and chaos among people.
