Referring to the death sentence passed on the accused in the recent case e rape and brutal murder of a girl in Surat, police commissioner Ajay Tomar said that the sentence would serve as a “message of fear” among perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
On December 7, 2020, the accused in this case, Dinesh Besan, abducted a 10-year-old from Pandesara. He raped the child and killed her by hitting her on the head with a brick.
Over a hundred police personnel, including Surat police officers, were engaged in the case and the hunt for Besan. The Surat police completed the investigation in the case in just 13 days and submitted the charge-sheet in court. The court finally awarded the death sentence to Besan.
Tomar emphasised that a sentence in such a case would send a strong message to society.
