In a joint operation by the Anti-Terrorist Squad and the Coast Guard, police have compiled a list of people involved in the Punjab drug haul worth Rs 400 crore seized from the coast near Jakhau in Gujarat.
The interrogation of the accused, who was caught with a quantity of 400 crore heroin being loaded on a Pakistani boat Al-Husseini, 35 nautical miles from Jakhau, revealed that the quantity was to be sent to people associated with the Punjab underworld. The ATS has approached the Punjab police in this regard and has sought a list of underworld people, including those who were earlier jailed or released on bail in a drug case.
The ATS has launched an investigation into whether these people have links with the Pakistani drug mafia and whether any local help has been sought in anchoring a boat carrying drugs to the coast. In addition, Jakhau and Kutch have been arrested in earlier drug cases and some suspects have been detained and interrogated.
The accused are identified as – Mohammad Imran Wagher, Ismail Badala, Mohammad Sajid Wagher, Sagar Wagher, Mohammad Danish Wagher and Ashfaq Wagher (Karachi). They were caught with drugs from the sea near Jakhau, and will be produced in front of the court on Wednesday for remand.
