| Updated: April 11, 2022 17:38

In the latest updates on communal clashes in Anand district’s Khambat, the police has registered a cross-complaint against a total of one thousand people for the riots that happened during Ram Navami parade. Murder of a person will be registered in Khambhat. Earlier, the police had registered nominal complaint against just 61 people. Two cases of rioting have also been registered here.

Furthermore, some people were also taken into custody for clashes that happened in Sabarkantha district’s Himmatnagar.

This news comes following a meeting between State Police Chief Ashish Bhatia and officials of Ministry of State for Home Affairs. During the meeting the situation at both places was reviewed. Reportedly, local officials were also involved in the clashes. Himmatnagar has two IG and four SP level officers. A DIG level officer has also been registered in Khambhat.

The entire state has been instructed to take necessary action. Cyber Crime branch has been put on alert for any misinformation regarding the incident on social media and other online platforms. Such offenses will be registered as well.

Communal riots happened in Khambhat and Himmatnagar yesterday as two groups clashed during the Ram Navami parade. According to the officials the recorded violence included stone-pelting and arson and the police had to use teargas shells to keep the situation under control.

“The body of an unnamed man, who seems to be around 65 years old, was retrieved from the area where the two groups clashed during a Ram Navami parade,” Police Superintendent Ajeet Rajyan said in Khambhat.
