| Updated: December 28, 2021 18:27

The Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad city traffic police will hire 16 cranes to tow vehicles that do not follow parking rules during the heavy traffic flow that is expected for the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in January 2022.

At present, the Gandhinagar traffic police has three operational towing vans.

The road from Ahmedabad to Mahatma Mandir, especially, witness heavy traffic during the days of the annual summit. Six cranes for two-wheelers, eight hydraulic cranes for four-wheelers vehicle and two more for towing vehicles like buses will be hired by the Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad city traffic police.

Police authorities have stated that strict action will be taken against vehicle owners who park haphazardly on both arterial roads and inner lanes during the summit.

Currently, domes are being built around the Mahatma Mandir for the Vibrant Summit to welcome guests. These domes will serve as the venues for registration, security checks, luggage storage and other processes. Gates are being erected around the temple along with the dome.

The other issue that the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation is currently trying to resolve is the deductible pay structure of janitors, working through agencies. Workers waiting for a solution are likely to strike again. Despite several representations to the corporation, no decision has been taken on this issue. The workers are ready to appeal to the state government in this regard.
