Pre-Monsoon Rains Expected in Gujarat, Ahmedabad to Brace for Cold Weather

| Updated: June 9, 2024 13:33

The Meteorological Department has forecasted light to moderate rains in various parts of the state over the next five days due to pre-monsoon activity. Despite this, temperatures in parts of central Gujarat have remained constant. Today, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar may experience a slight drop in temperature due to cloudy weather, but residents will have to brace for severe cold weather.

Rain is expected in various districts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra today. Scattered light rain is likely in Saurashtra, while light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected over most districts of South Gujarat.

Notably, while the monsoon has been moving slowly after entering South India, it has already reached parts of Goa and Maharashtra. There are chances of scattered light rains in Mumbai today. Due to the cyclonic circulation over Saurashtra, the Meteorological Department has indicated the likelihood of rains in the districts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra. These rains are expected to fall under pre-monsoon activity as the monsoon has not yet entered Gujarat. Temperatures may cool amid chances of rain in various parts. However, the people of Ahmedabad will still have to endure temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius.

In Ahmedabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 42.4 degrees Celsius during the last 24 hours, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 31 degrees Celsius. Residents are experiencing heat and cold even during the night, but high wind speeds are providing some relief from the heat. While there are chances of thundershowers in various parts of Gujarat today, the wind speed will also be at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour in those areas. However, the weather department in Ahmedabad has not indicated the possibility of rain.

After the minimum temperature of the city was recorded at 31 degrees Celsius early in the morning, the maximum temperature of the city reached 32 degrees Celsius from 9:00 am and is expected to reach 35 degrees Celsius by 12:00 pm. It will increase slightly every hour to reach a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius by 3:00 pm. Thereafter, the maximum temperature in the city will be around 37 to 38 degrees Celsius with cloudy weather during 5:00 pm. After sunset at 7:00 PM, the skies of Ahmedabad will become cloudy and the maximum temperature may reach 30 °C, 32 °C at 9:00 PM and around 31 °C from 11:00 PM. Today in Ahmedabad city, the main wind direction will be at the speed of 1 km per hour and will blow from the south-west direction.
