President Ram Nath Kovind conferred Padma awards to 54 recipients at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. This year the list of awardees includes 17 recipients of Padma Bhushan, 107 of Padma Shri and four Padma Vibhushan recipients.
Veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman of Serum Institute of India Cyrus Poonawalla, Paralympic silver medalist Devendra Jhajharia, Gurmeet Bawa, Sachidanand Swami were among the recipients of Padma Bhushan for their contribution in the field of public affairs, trade and industry, sports, arts and literature and education respectively.
The Padma Vibhushan awardees included India’s first Chief of Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat (posthumous), Gita Press Chairman Radheyshyam Khemka (posthumous), Kalyan Singh (posthumous) and Prabha Atre for their contribution in the field of Civil Services, Literature and Education, Public Affairs and Art respectively.
Olympics Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, Para-shooter Avani Lekhara and hockey player Vandana Katariya received Padma Shri in the field of sports.Also, 125-year-old Swami Sivananda received the Padma Shri award in the field of yoga.
