Punjab CM Channi, Mansa Candidate Sidhu Moosewala Booked For Poll Code Violation

Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress candidate from Mansa Shubhdeep Singh, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala violated the poll code on Friday.

Both of them were campaigning after the deadline of 6 pm.

Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate, Dr Vijay Singla from Mansa lodged an FIR under Section 188 of IPC (Indian Penal Code). On Friday evening, he went live on Facebook to show Channi and Moosewala campaigning in the area till 6.30 pm.

After Dr Singla submitted a formal complaint to election observer CK Yadav, a flying squad team went to the location, which confirmed the claims.

According to the guidelines of EC, candidates had to stop their campaigning after 6 pm on Friday. The EC on Thursday had also announced that all rallies and public meetings would end at the scheduled time on Friday.

Meanwhile, Moosewala was campaigning with more than 400 supporters beyond the allowable limit for a door-to-door campaign.

While in a different incident, police booked a Congress candidate Bikram Singh Mofar, on Friday for holding a roadshow without permission.

The assembly elections in Punjab are to take place in a single phase on February 20. The results of the elections will be announced on 10th March.
