Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will visit on a two-day visit to Gujarat on March 7-8. Ahead of his visit, Gujarat Congress in-charge Mukul Wasnik and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal will arrive in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
During his visit, Rahul Gandhi will participate in the Political Affairs Committee meeting and meet with MLAs, former MLAs, Congress party presidents, former presidents, and opposition leaders.
He will also hold meetings with district and taluka-level leaders and is expected to engage in discussions with party workers.
Ahmedabad city Congress president Himmatsinh Patel stated that party workers had been waiting for Rahul Gandhi’s visit, and considering this, the tour was planned. He will discuss public issues in Gujarat, highlight the failures of the BJP, and focus on presenting the truth to the people.
Future programmes will also be discussed. A grand welcome has been planned for him at the airport tomorrow.
Giving the specifics of the visit, Patel said, “Rahul Gandhi is expected to arrive at Ahmedabad airport at 9:30 am and hold a meeting at 10:00 am with former Congress presidents, senior leaders, and opposition figures. At 10:30 am, he will meet with the Political Affairs Committee and heads of the party’s frontal cells and departments. At 2:00 pm, he will engage with the presidents of 44 district and city units, followed by a discussion with municipal presidents at 3:00 pm.”
“From 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, he will interact with the organisation and other leaders before staying overnight in Ahmedabad. On March 8, he will hold direct discussions with Congress workers in the morning, attended by district and city officials. Later in the afternoon, he will depart for Delhi,” he added.
His visit comes a month ahead of the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) session, which is being held in Gujarat after 64 years.
Party spokesperson Manish Doshi stated that Gandhi is expected to plan the party strategy for the 2027 assembly elections in the state.
Reportedly, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) will meet at the Sardar Patel Smarak in Shahibaug on April 8, while the AICC delegates session will take place on the riverfront on April 9, with nearly 2,000 delegates expected to attend. The smarak was chosen as the venue to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, who arrived in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, held meetings with party leaders and visited the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Memorial at Shahibaug and the Gandhi Ashram.
He stated that 2025 is the organisational year for the Congress, with a focus on strengthening the party from the grassroots level to the top.
“Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge have planned large-scale organisational programmes throughout the year, beginning with Gujarat,” Venugopal said.
He asserted that the upcoming session in Gujarat, the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel, aims to advance the fight for protecting the Constitution and the legacy of these leaders.
Venugopal added that the Congress seeks to reaffirm its deep roots and strong connection with the people of Gujarat, stating that the ruling regime in the state has exceeded all limits of injustice, corruption, and destruction of constitutional values.
