Bollywood fans are in for a treat as three of the industry’s biggest stars are set to share the screen in a new film by acclaimed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal will headline Bhansali’s next project, titled ‘Love & War’, which is expected to release in Christmas 2025.

The film marks the reunion of Kapoor and Bhansali, who collaborated for the former’s debut film ‘Saawariya’ in 2007, a romantic drama based on a short story by Fyodor Dostoevsky. It also marks the second collaboration of Bhatt and Bhansali, who worked together in the 2022 film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, a biopic of a powerful brothel owner in Mumbai. Kapoor and Bhatt, who are dating in real life, have also starred together in the 2022 sci-fi fantasy film ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’, produced by Disney.

Bhansali, who is known for his lavish and extravagant films, has described ‘Love & War’ as an “epic saga” that will showcase his signature style of storytelling. However, the plot and genre of the film are still under wraps, and the fans are eagerly waiting for more details to be revealed.

The film also features Kaushal, who is one of the most versatile and sought-after actors in Bollywood. Kaushal has had a successful year in 2023, with two blockbuster films – ‘Dunki’, a comedy-drama about illegal immigrants in the UK, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan, and ‘Sam Bahadur’, a biopic of India’s first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw. Kaushal expressed his excitement about working with Bhansali and his co-stars in an Instagram post, saying, “An eternal cinema dream has come true.” Bhatt also shared her enthusiasm in a post, saying, “Back with the best… my favourite kind of reunion. Can’t wait…”

‘Love & War’ is produced by Bhansali Productions, along with some undisclosed partners. The film is expected to go on floors soon, and will be shot in various locations across India and abroad. The film is slated to hit the theatres in December 2025, and will compete with other big releases of the year.

Meanwhile, Bhansali is also gearing up for the release of his Netflix series ‘Heeramandi’, which is set in the pre-independence era of India, in the red-light district of Lahore, which is now in Pakistan. The series will explore the lives and struggles of the courtesans of Heeramandi, and their involvement in the politics and history of the region. The series will feature a ensemble cast of actors, and will showcase Bhansali’s grand and opulent sets and music.

Bhansali is one of the most celebrated and respected filmmakers in India, who has won several awards and accolades for his films, such as ‘Devdas’, ‘Black’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Padmaavat’. His films are known for their rich and colourful visuals, intricate and elaborate costumes and sets, melodious and soulful music, and powerful and passionate performances. His films often deal with themes of love, sacrifice, honour, pride, and tragedy, and are inspired by various sources of literature, history, and culture.

With ‘Love & War’, Bhansali is expected to deliver another masterpiece that will captivate the audiences and critics alike, and will add to his legacy of cinematic excellence.
