Ranveer Allahbadia Apologises for Controversial Remark on India’s Got Latent

| Updated: February 10, 2025 15:59

Popular social media personality Ranveer Allahbadia, known by his online alias BeerBiceps, issued a public apology on Monday for a controversial comment made during his appearance on comedian Samay Raina’s “India’s Got Latent” show.

In a video statement posted across his social media platforms, Allahbadia admitted that his comment, made in jest, was both “inappropriate” and “not funny.”

“My comment was not just inappropriate, it wasn’t even funny. Comedy is not my forte. Just here to say sorry,” Allahbadia said, expressing regret over the incident.

The influencer, who is known for his podcasts with several high-profile individuals including union ministers, acknowledged the criticism and backlash he received following the remarks, which involved a sensitive subject matter related to parents and sex.

“Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform. Obviously, this is not how I wish to use my platform. I am not going to give any context, justification, or reasoning behind whatever happened. I am just here for an apology. I, personally, had a lapse in judgment. It wasn’t cool on my part,” Allahbadia stated.

The apology comes after the YouTuber faced intense trolling for his distasteful comment. Allahbadia further emphasised his responsibility as an influencer, stating that he does not take it lightly, especially considering his diverse audience. “Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect. Need to use this platform better and that’s been my learning from this whole experience,” he said.

“I promise to just get better.”

In addition to the apology, Allahbadia revealed that he had requested the makers of the show to remove the insensitive sections from the video. “All I can say in the end is sorry. I hope you can forgive me as a human being,” he concluded.

Following the controversy, a formal complaint has been filed against Allahbadia, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina, and the organisers of the show “India’s Got Latent.”

The complaint, lodged with both the Mumbai Commissioner and the Maharashtra Women’s Commission, accuses the individuals involved of using abusive language and making offensive remarks.

The complaint alleges that the controversial remarks made during the broadcast, which aired globally on YouTube, were deliberately obscene, with the intention of gaining popularity and financial profit. The complainant has demanded legal action against the accused, claiming that the jokes made about women’s private parts were a serious offence.
