Rajasthan Police have launched an investigation after a significant portion of the ancestral house of gangster Rohit Godara was found demolished in Bikaner’s Loonkaransar area. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning, with officials saying the damage appears to have been caused using a JCB machine.
Police said no one was present inside the house when the demolition took place, and no injuries have been reported.
Police Reached the Spot After Receiving Information
According to police officials, they were informed about the incident around 9 am on Tuesday. Soon after receiving the information, the local Station House Officer (SHO) visited the site to assess the damage.
Loonkaransar Circle Officer Ranveer Singh said that a major portion of the house had been demolished and initial observations suggest heavy machinery, likely a JCB, was used during the operation. Police have started collecting evidence and are trying to identify those responsible for carrying out the demolition.
Residents Say They Did Not Notice the Incident
Local residents told police they had no idea when or how the demolition took place. Officials said the houses in the area are located far from each other, making it difficult for neighbours to notice such activity.
Some residents also said that the sound of air coolers running overnight may have drowned out the noise of the demolition work. Police are now examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and gathering other evidence to trace the people involved.
Family Members Were Not at the House
Officials confirmed that none of Rohit Godara’s family members were at the property when the incident occurred. Godara’s parents, Sant Das and Gita, along with his brother Hanuman Swami, are currently lodged in jail in separate extortion cases.
Police said Hanuman Swami was arrested in an extortion case in Sri Ganganagar, while Godara’s parents are facing another extortion case registered in Ratangarh in Churu district.
Officials also said Hanuman Swami’s wife had left the house with her children around 10 to 12 days before the incident and had asked neighbours to look after the crops during her absence.
As of now, no formal complaint has been filed regarding the demolition. Police said further legal action will be taken once a complaint is received.
Godara Believed to Be Abroad
According to police, Rohit Godara is believed to be absconding and is reportedly in Azerbaijan. His name recently surfaced in Operation Hardball, a coordinated international crackdown by law enforcement agencies from the United States, Canada and Europe targeting Indian organised crime networks.
The operation reportedly led to the arrest of 24 people linked to various criminal activities, including the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Authorities have identified Godara as the European leader of the Lawrence Bishnoi criminal network.
Investigation Underway
Police have not yet identified who carried out the demolition or the motive behind it. Investigators are analysing CCTV footage and other evidence as they continue their probe. Officials said more details are expected to emerge once the investigation progresses and a formal complaint is registered.
