An Indian-origin technology executive working at Google was allegedly shot dead by her husband during a domestic dispute at their home in Georgia, United States. The incident also left the couple’s 23-year-old son injured after he was reportedly shot while trying to escape the violence. Police have arrested the accused, while investigations into the incident are continuing.
Police Respond to Shooting at Family Home
The shooting took place shortly before 8 p.m. in the Laurel Creek Trail neighbourhood in Georgia.
According to the Cobb County Police Department, officers reached the scene after receiving reports of a shooting. They took 56-year-old Kirk B. Wrzesien into custody without any resistance. Police described the case as a domestic violence incident and said there was no threat to the public.
Son Ran to Neighbours After Being Shot
Investigators said the couple’s 23-year-old son, Jason, was also shot during the incident. He suffered a gunshot wound to his back while his parents were reportedly fighting.
According to a neighbour, Jason first ran to a nearby house seeking help but was unable to get inside. He then reached another neighbour’s home, where residents immediately sheltered him and helped stop the bleeding until emergency medical teams arrived. The neighbour said Jason had come looking for help shortly before 8 p.m. after witnessing the confrontation between his parents.
Accused Faces Multiple Criminal Charges
Following the incident, police arrested Kirk B. Wrzesien and charged him with:
Felony murder
Two counts of aggravated assault
Two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
He is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
Victim Was a Senior Google Engineering Leader
The victim, Sheetal (Shital) Wrzesien, was an engineering leader at Google with more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry. She was an alumna of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and had built a distinguished career in software engineering and technology leadership.
According to her profile on the Georgia Tech website, she spent her childhood in England, India and Ghana before moving to the United States to study Computer Science at Georgia Tech.
Respected Technology Professional
Beyond her work at Google, Sheetal made significant contributions to the technology community. She was listed as the inventor on two software patents, served on the Advisory Board of the Georgia Tech College of Computing, and was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Tech Alumni Association.
Her death has shocked both the technology community and those who knew her professionally and personally.
Investigation Continues
Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting. While the accused has been arrested and charged, authorities are working to establish the full sequence of events that unfolded inside the family home before the tragedy occurred.
