Bollywood actor Salman Khan and religious leaders will help aware and convince the Muslim community in Maharashtra to take their jabs of Covid-19 vaccine, said the state health minister, Rajesh Tope.
He said, “There is still some hesitancy in Muslim-dominated areas. We have decided to use Salman Khan and religious leaders to convince the Muslim community to take the vaccine. Religious leaders and film actors wield great influence and people listen to them.”
Maharashtra is a leading state for administering vaccine shots but the pace at which vaccination is taking place is really low in some areas of the state, he added.
Talking about the possibility of a third wave, Tope said that the experts suggest, the pandemic has a seven-month cycle but due to widespread vaccination, the next covid wave will be less severe.
However, the Health Department data shows that seven districts and seven civic bodies have not reported a single Covid-19 case in the last 24 hours. The highest number of 213 new infections has been reported in Mumbai, followed by Pune with 96 cases.
