Senior IPS Officer Abhay Chudasama Resigns Months Before Retirement

| Updated: February 4, 2025 20:29

Senior IPS officer Abhay Chudasama has resigned from service several months before his scheduled superannuation. Chudasama, an Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) rank officer, is currently serving as the Principal of Karai Police Training Academy in Gandhinagar.

Speaking with a news outlet, Chudasama confirmed his resignation on Tuesday but did not provide any reasons for seeking voluntary retirement nearly seven months before his retirement.

A 1999-batch IPS officer, Chudasama was previously at the centre of controversy during the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Sohrabuddin Shaikh encounter case.

He was arrested by the CBI in 2010 and was granted bail by a special CBI court four years later. Following his acquittal, he was reinstated by the government.

In 2023, Chudasama was transferred to Karai Police Academy from his position as Gandhinagar Range Inspector General. Last year, he was promoted to the ADGP rank and continued as the Principal of the academy.

In recent times, he has been seen attending several social events, where he publicly stated that he had no intention of joining politics.
