Seven Labourers Die In Ahmedabad, Builder Go Missing

In a horrifying incident, at least seven labourers were killed and two seriously injured when a makeshift  elevator crashed in a building that was under construction.

The tragedy took place at Aspire 2 construction site behind Janvi Restaurant of Gujarat University area. All the dead and injured were working as labourers on the construction site of an upcoming plush building called Aspire 2.

According to police and witnesses, the builders tried to suppress the tragedy when it took place on Wednesday morning. The incident took place around 830 am but the police were informed only around 11 am, sources said.

 “The staff including the builders and the engineer at the site left no stone unturned to suppress the case, as no communications were made from the site to get any support from either the police or the fire department.”

 The police has registered a complaint against the builders including Bharat Zaveri, Jagdishchandra Kalia, Pallavi Kansara,Rameshchandra Kalia,Rahul Kalia, Kailaschandra Kalia, Nilesh Kalia, Ashish Shahi,Nitin Sanghvi, Parul Zaveri and Vipul Shah.

The dead included Sanjay Babubhai Nayak, Jagdish Ramesh Nayak, Ashwin Sombhai Nayak, Mukeshbhai Bharatbhai Nayak, Ramesh Bharat Nayak, Rajmal Suresh Khalladi and Pankaj Shankar Khalladi.

According to the preliminary reports, a make-shift lift carrying 8 manual workers had stopped working and crashed at the seventh floor around 8.30 am in the morning. Out of eight, two workers jumped from the broken lift and the rest fell into the basement.3

The injured labourers were taken to a local hospital for treatment whereas the bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Sola.
