| Updated: November 8, 2022 16:04

One of the most trusted lieutenants of Rajiv Gandhi and an ardent supporter of Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda had expressed his dismay over the news that Himanshu Vyas left the Congress to join BJP.

“My friend Himanshu Vyas, AICC Secretary, Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) in-charge Himanshu Vyas has resigned from the Congress post and joined BJP. I got this information from the media. I am deeply saddened, surprised, and shocked to learn this.” He tweeted.

As the news of Himanshu Vyas leaving Congress and joining the BJP came in, the technocrat who revolutionized Indian telecommunication in mid-eighties, reacted in a series of tweets. “I cannot express my shock as Himanshu Vyas did not inform me before resigning or even gave me a copy of his resignation”

Recalling his association with Himanshu Vyas, Sam Pitroda said he had known  Himansh Vyas, a youth congress leader,  since the time of Rajiv Gandhi. The Gujarati NRI said they worked together and over time Vyas became a trusted companion.

Pitroda declined to have sensed any inclination about the plans of Himanshu Vyas. “I feel I trust people based on their face value and do not do enough due diligence. Mistrust is never a part of my style or character. It is perhaps hard for me to change now.” he said.

Sam Pitroda lamented that it is common in India to see people switching loyalties for the sake of immediate personal gain instead of public interest and ideology. He rued that this is not good for our democracy and It can cause damage to the country.

Decency demands, he wished Himanshu Vyas all the best for his future plans.
