Sima Patel Battles For Women’s Causes Through Paint & Brush In NAARITVA

| Updated: April 22, 2023 15:33

Ahmedabad-based artist Sima Patel’s interpretation of womanhood is set to take center stage for her upcoming art exhibition—NAARITVA on April 23, 2023. The exhibition will feature her latest collection of paintings, which will showcase the strength, beauty and diversity of women. She spoke to Vibes of India about her art and various aspects of womanhood.

Sima Patel’s artistic journey began at a young age when she painted her first artwork at just eight years old. However, it wasn’t until later in life that she pursued her passion and completed a fine art course in Ahmedabad. She says, ‘I challenged myself to create a painting a day and found solace in my art during the severe pandemic. With the support of my family, I was able to showcase the diverse roles of women through my feminist exhibition. My belief in the value of every life is reflected in my artwork, including a depiction of a fetus, as I believe that every child has the potential to positively impact society with their ideas.’

VO! asked Sima Patel about the significance of the monochrome colours used in her painting. She says, ‘Black is a negative colour and White is a positive colour. And as it’s a challenging task so I use black & white colours to bring neutrality to my paintings.’

Her collection is about every modern-day woman who hustles daily and forgets to see herself within. It is important to self-reflect as it can be very harmful to hide inner emotions.

“I personally feel that every woman is capable of going beyond limits to prove her worth and feel free in this cruel world. All she needs is just a little push from her surroundings to get out from the cage of innocence,” shares Sima Patel.
