When the news of the untimely death of 42-year-old Sonali Phogat, a controversial social media star, actor and BJP leader from Haryana came it was accompanied by a heart attack as the reason.
However, the family suspected foul play and the intervention of Haryana Chief Minister M L Khattar made the police file a murder case. The investigation revealed that Sonali’s drink was spiked with MDMA drug just prior to her death. Post mortem report also revealed that she had multiple blunt force injuries over her body.
Police investigation with a chemical examination of viscera and other tests found that her drink was spiked with the synthetic drug MDMA. Video footage of Sonali Phogat made to forcibly drink a beverage has surfaced. According to the source, interrogation of the accused has revealed that 1.5 grams of MDMA were mixed in the beverage. Sudhir bought the MDMA from a drug peddler outside the club.
Security camera footage from the Goa restaurant has emerged showing her unable to walk on her own. She is seen being held by Sudhir Sangwan one of her two associates arrested in the case.
Police said that the two accused were seen taking Phogat to the washroom of the restaurant at around 4:30 am on August 23. All three of them stayed inside the washroom for two hours adding that the custodial interrogation will reveal what happened during those two hours. Another accused Sukhwinder Singh was also with them at Curlie’s Restaurant, on the Anjuna beach. She was found dead later at the Grand Leoney Resort at Anjuna, Goa
Sonali was born in 1979, in Bhuthan Kalan, a village near Hisar in Haryana. She started professionally with Hisar Doordarshan in 2006. She was with BJP since 2008 joining the BJP’s national working committee, where she was appointed as the national vice-president of the Mahila Morcha.
She acted alongside actor-turned-politician Ravi Kishan and Jimmy Sheirgill in Haryanvi movies. Her OTT debut was in 2019 with the web series, ‘The Story of Badmashgarh’.
She had been attracting controversies regularly. In one instance she was seen hitting an officer with her slippers. In another incident where she had to tender an apology, she said people not chanting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ should move to Pakistan. It was during the 2019 assembly election campaign which she contested unsuccessfully from the Adampur Assembly constituency against Congress’ Kuldeep Bishnoi.
She entered the popular reality show ‘Big Boss’ hosted by Salman Khan, as a wildcard contestant in 2020. Married to Sanjay Phogat who was found dead under mysterious circumstances in 2016, she is survived by a teenage daughter.
Sonali’s family has alleged rape also. Her brother, Rinku Dhaka, said her associates had the “intention to take over her properties and financial assets “.
