Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday, marking the second day of his state visit to India.
At Rashtrapati Bhavan, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was received by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. President Dissanayake inspected a Guard of Honour by the joint defence services.
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and President Droupadi Murmu introduced each other to their respective officials, diplomats, and ministries.
From December 15–17, the president of Sri Lanka will be in India on a state visit. This is Dissanayake’s first bilateral visit to India since assuming office in September.
L Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, welcomed the president of Sri Lanka earlier on Sunday in Delhi.
Following his arrival, President Dissanayake also called on Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
“During my official visit to India, I had the privilege of engaging in productive discussions with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Shri Ajit Doval. Our conversations focused on strengthening Indo-Sri Lanka economic cooperation, enhancing investment opportunities, fostering regional security, and advancing key sectors such as tourism and energy. These engagements reaffirm the commitment to deepening the partnership between our two nations,” Dissanayake said in a post on X.
In his Sunday meeting with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Jaishankar emphasised the island nation’s significant contribution to SAGAR Outlook and India’s Neighbourhood First policy.
