Swiggy’s StatEATstics: Indians Order Two Biryanis Every Second

| Updated: December 22, 2021 20:15

Guess how many samosas Indians order? Well, hold your breath: They order 50 lakh of them or equivalent to the combined population of Dubai, Maldives and Hawaii!

Want more? Well, Indians order 2 biryanis every second.

This is not all. Swiggy’s latest StatEATstics 2021 also reveals that Pavbhaji and Gulab Jamun are the second most-ordered food with 21 lakh orders.

It is for the sixth year in a row that Biryani maintained its numero uno status as the most-ordered delicacy with a whopping 6,04,44,000 orders in 2021.

As for snacks, the humble samosa seems to be a common thread across India being the most binged item, with 50 lakh orders.

In what Swiggy calls, the Munch and Binge category, popcorn, French fries and cheese garlic bread are the most-ordered chews post 10 p.m. to go with binge watching movies and TV.

The ‘StatEATstics’ report is a compilation of the orders received on food delivery app Swiggy, grocery app Instamart, pick up and drop service Genie and Healthhub in 2021.

The data from Instamart discovers the love of Indians for tomatoes “with as many orders that can easily help organize many La Tomatina festivals.”

And the top five fruits and veggies were tomatoes, bananas, onions, potatoes and green chillies. Instamart delivered a mind boggling 28 million-plus packs of vegetables and fruits in 2021.
