The bronze statue of Dr Sarabhai sitting on a desk and writing in a notebook on a table, was vandalised by unknown miscreants between 11 pm on October 26 to 11 am on October 27.
Miscreants after vandalising the statue took away the table, book, and pen attached to the statue. The statue was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi two years ago.
According to police, the bronze statue of Dr Sarabhai, who was sitting at a desk and writing in a notebook on the table, was vandalized by unidentified miscreants between 11 pm on October 26 and 11 am on October 27. A complaint against the miscreants had been lodged at the Riverfront West police station.
“On Wednesday morning, around 11 a.m., while I was patrolling on Riverfront Road, I saw Dr. Chidambaram House on Corner Road. A statue of Vikram Sarabhai has been installed, his bronze table, bronze book, and bronze pen are missing. Unidentified thugs forcibly pulled the legs of the table attached to the floor. However, these items were intact until 11 pm on Tuesday. ” Prem Singh Chauhan who is the supervisor there said.
A senior police official of Sabarmati Riverfront West said, “We are checking the front footage and entry of vehicles, as well as CCTV footage near the exit on a given road stretch during a certain period as the bronze table, was very heavy. So that it cannot be carried away easily.
Dr. Sarabhai is known as the father of the Indian space program, and he is also the founder of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), and ISRO’s Space Application Center.
