Miva Jolly, Ernakulam District General Secretary of Kerala Students Union has confirmed to be the girl meeting Rahul Gandhi in the viral video which falsely claimed that it was Amulya Noronha, a journalism student who was arrested for chanting the ” Pakistan Zindabad ” slogan.
A few Twitter handles had tried to fan the impression that a girl seen with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his Bharat Jodo Yatra was Amulya Leona Noronha, a Bengaluru student who was arrested in February 2020 for chanting objectionable slogans in support of Pakistan after she took to stage during a rally against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA) by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the presence of Asaduddin Owaisi.
KReality twitted the photo with a video of Noronha initially. It was picked up later by various Twitter handles. Known BJP sympathizer Priti Gandhi too tweeted the same fake news, which she deleted later.
Miva Jolly is the Kerala Students Union leader. She is General Secretary of the KSU for the Ernakulam district. She confirmed that she is the person in the viral photo with Rahul Gandhi taken during the Bharat Jodo Yatra. Rahul Gandhi is on 3000 km walk across India from Kanyakumari in the South to Kashmir in the north. His stated mission to undertake this march is to unite India, which he says is under threat due to the divisive politics of the ruling party BJP. The march commenced on September 30 has completed the 17th of its scheduled 150 days programme.
Several fact-checking websites also debunked the viral claim and brought out the fact that the girl in the viral photo with Gandhi taken during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Ernakulam, Kerala is not Amulya Noronha as being falsely claimed. The viral post included a comparison with a photo of a girl with Gandhi on the left and the viral video of Noronha chanting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ on the right claiming that both are the same people.
Miva Jolly said rubbishing the claim confirming that she is the woman in the viral photo with Gandhi. “That is me in the photo with Rahul ji. The photo was clicked at the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Ernakulam District, Kerala.”
