On one hand, the government and the Home Minister are always appreciating the Gujarat police, on the other hand a constable of Surat police, named Head Constable Vipul Ranchodbhai Kordia has been suspended for blackmailing the Gujarat police.
The constable was using his position to provide CDR secretly. As soon as this matter came to light, Delhi police swiftly arrested him and Surat police suspended him.Vipul who was posted in Kapodra was absent from duty for the past 7 months.
He has put the Surat police in a deplorable situation.
The matter in detail
Delhi police recently busted a racket of detective agencies and police who were illicitly involved in obtaining and selling Call Detail Records (CDR) of people . The prime suspect in the case has been nabbed, while raids are on to catch others in the crime. It is suspected by the police that the gang had recently sold more than 500 CDRs.
The Delhi police received inputs about a person working for a private detective agency who was illegally giving out CDRS. To catch him red handed, the police sent one of their men disguised as a customer and contacted the agency for the CDR’s phone number.
The police laid a trap and a series of arrests began.
People from other agencies may also be involved
An official said that they suspect that more than 500 CDRs may have been sold by the gang. Customers used to contact him through phone numbers.
The police say that many other agencies are also involved in such work and they charge huge sums of money for giving out people’s personal information and CDRs. The gang’s rate is Rs 25,000 for each detail. The police suspect that the accused is a part of a big racket. After interrogation, the role of the owner of the detective agency and person involved in the illegal activity for the last 4-5 years was known.
Police also found that the accused provided CDRs through drafts in the email id provided by the client. Officials reveal that most CDRs were related to marital disputes or suspicion of extra-marital affairs.
One other official Kumar said that he and his colleagues were in touch with personnel of law enforcement agencies who gave them the call details. Police are currently investigating the evidence. Meanwhile, the role of some telecom service providers is also under supervision.
