Amla is an important food in the Ayurvedic system of medicine that is said to prevent the accumulation of toxins in the body. Amla is consumed in India through pickles, murabbas, candies, juice and chyawanprash.

Amla, also known as Amalaki, has anti-oxidant, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties and is regarded as one of the most potent fruits produced in nature.

As per Ayurveda, Amla or Indian gooseberry has cooling energy, which is why the citrus fruit is good for managing all three doshas – vata, pitta, and kapha.
