Gujarat: Chemical Leakage Kills 6 In Surat; 20 Critical In Hospital

Six laboureres have died and another 20 are affected by an incident of gas leakage from a tanker in the Sachin GIDC area near Surat. Fire department of Surat Municipal Corporation received a message at 4.25 am today with the information of a deadly incident at Road No 4, Near Raj Kamal Chawkdi, Notified Area of Sachin GIDC, Surat has taken place.

Sources claimed that a tanker was illegally discharging toxic chemicals in the pit when the toxic gas spread. The heavy toxicity of the gas affected whole of the area and 26 labourers present at the nearby Vishva Prem Dying and Printing Mill and around fell unconscious. Not only that two stray dogs too died due to the toxic gas spread in the area.

108 ambulances of Surat Municipal Corporation immediately rushed to the spot and all the affected were shifted to the hospitals. The whole area was evacuated looking to the seriousness of the issue.

Chief Fire Officer of the Surat Fire brigade and other officers too reached the spot. The Fire officers with their specialised equipment on, fixed the valve of the tanker and also diluted the chemical by water canons. Situation is under control now.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel tweeted his condolences to the departed souls and wished for speedy recovery of affected.
