Two Leopards Found Dead On The Outskirts Of Surat City

| Updated: January 20, 2022 20:43

Two leopards aged between four and five years, were found dead on the NH-48 on the outskirts of Surat city on Thursday morning. Forest officers suspect that the big cats were run over by a speeding vehicle while they were crossing the main road.

The carcasses were noticed by a passer-by who informed the forest department. A large number of people gathered on the spot to take pictures. As a result, police had to reach the spot to disperse the crowd.

Range Forest Officer (RFO) Pankaj Chaudhary and his team moved the carcasses to the forest

department’s veterinary hospital. It was there that doctors carried out a post-mortem and found that they died due to severe head injuries. “We have prepared a first offense report and have started a probe. We are also trying to find out whether anybody has sighted any leopard in the last couple of days. We suspect both the leopards were playing and while crossing the road, they were run over by a speeding vehicle. The incident may have taken place in the early hours of the morning. We will check the CCTV footage of Raj hotel as the accident took place there.’’
