US Visa Of Key Agent Yogesh Patel Cancelled, Sleuths Trail Three Others

| Updated: February 6, 2023 15:02

In a bid to ground key agent in the Dingucha immigration tragedy, officers of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch worked at having cancelled, the US visa procured by Yogesh Patel. Patel is the key agent who sent the Dingucha family of four, including two children, illegally to the US. The family froze to death while crossing into the US from Winnipeg in Manitoba province in Canada, in early 2022.

Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the US has also informally procured details of agents operating from Ahmedabad and parts of north Gujarat. “We are working with the US and Canadian authorities to end the illegal immigration,” stated an official.

Yogesh and his accomplices were known for procuring legal student and tourist visas. “All identity documents and marksheets were faked. Once in, the aspirants stayed on,” briefed investigating officers.

It may be recalled that sleuths from crime branch arrested Yogesh Patel, Bhavesh Patel and Dashrath Chaudhary last month. During interrogation, it was learnt that Yogesh was set to flee to the US but got arrested in the nick of time.

“His accomplices Fenil Patel from Surat and Bitta Singh are already in Canada. We have sought their travel documents from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police,” officials added.

“In Canada, Fenil and Bitta used their resources to help such immigrants cross over to the US illegally,” said the official. “It was Fenil and Bitta who asked the Dingucha family to walk through the Winnipeg border, with temperatures plunging to -35°C,” said the official.

Crime Branch officials added that they have evidence against three other agents who used to send illegal immigrants to the US via European countries. “We are on their trail will be arresting them soon,” they added.
