The scale of infections spreading in the UK and France could translate into lakhs of cases a day in India – said the government’s Covid task force chief today.
Presently, India has 101 Omicron cases across 11 states and Union Territories.
VK Paul said, “If we look at the scale of spread in the UK and if there is a similar outbreak in India, then given our population, there will be 14 lakh cases every day.”
Europe is undergoing a serious phase although its population is 80 per cent vaccinated, he further added.
He asked people to be cautious and avoid unnecessary travel, crows and New Year festivities.
As per the officials, and going by the trend, it is likely that Omicron will outpace Delta wave.
