RAJKOT: In a disturbing case, a 28-year-old woman has come forward to report an alleged rape by her colleague, who coerced her into getting a divorce under false promises of marriage.
The complaint, filed at the A-division police station, names the accused as Ravi Kanjani, a fellow employee at a mobile showroom in the city. The woman revealed that the two had met a few months ago and struck up a friendship, sharing details of her marital disputes with Kanjani, who was also married and had a child.
Exploiting the woman’s vulnerable state, Kanjani manipulated her emotionally, assuring her that he would divorce his wife and marry her in return. Convinced by his promises, the woman separated from her husband.
However, the situation took a horrifying turn when Kanjani, instead of fulfilling his commitment, began a physical relationship with the woman. Allegedly, he took her to a hotel where he raped her, reiterating his promise of marriage. The complaint further states that Kanjani visited the woman’s parents and convinced them to support their union.
The victim claims that the assaults continued at Kanjani’s residence when his wife was away visiting her parents. As the woman began to grow suspicious of Kanjani’s intentions and pressed him about divorcing his wife, he callously refused, stating that he couldn’t abandon his family and proposed that they continue their relationship.
Feeling betrayed and traumatized, the woman decided to take legal action, filing a complaint against Kanjani. The authorities are now investigating the case, and the accused may face charges related to rape and deception. This shocking incident highlights the vulnerability of individuals in personal relationships and underscores the importance of consent and honesty in such matters.
