In a heart wrenching incident in Ahmedabad, a 33-year-old woman bloodied her parents after they opposed her marriage to a person who they thought was not suitable for her.
According to information, the incident took place two days ago.The woman is a lecturer in a private college. Mother too is a teacher and father is a professor at IIM-A.
The woman had got in touch with a person, a resident of Naroda area of Ahmedabad. He had introduced himself as a rich person hailing from Punjab.
When the woman’s parents checked, the credentials did not match. The person wasn’t rich and he worked as a delivery boy.
Sources said the parents pleaded with her not to marry the person and told his reality. She, however, refused to believe their version and remained adamant on her decision. This often resulted in fights.
Things turned ugly two days ago and the woman hit her parents hard, leaving them bleeding.
Efforts by neighbours and relatives to intervene failed and it was at this time that one of the persons called the women’s helpline.
Sources said it was clear that the person wanted to marry the woman for money.
The team tried to convince her but she did not budge. The team then used a technique that worked.
The team told the woman to tell the person that she was leaving everything behind and coming to marry him.
This put the person in a fix and he started giving excuses. Finally, he said no for the marriage.
Sources said the girl realised what mistake she was about to make. She apologised to her parents.
The staff in the women’s helpline are trained to handle such situations. Sources said they keep getting a wide range of complaints and cases.
