The World Bank has granted a sum of Rs 2460 crore to uplift the quality of education and infrastructure in schools across Chhattisgarh. This move comes as a result of the proactive efforts led by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, aiming to strengthen education standards and foster science and commerce education at the higher secondary level.
The project is set to benefit approximately 40 lakh students hailing from economically disadvantaged and marginalized backgrounds. As part of this endeavor, the state has established Swami Atmanand English and Hindi medium Schools, providing top-notch education to students from underprivileged communities. Moreover, numerous innovative initiatives are being undertaken to transform the education sector.
One such initiative is the Chhattisgarh Accelerated Learning for a Knowledge Economy Operation (CHALK) project, which strives to enhance educational access at all grade levels and address the growing demand for science and commerce studies at the senior secondary level. The project aims to offer residential facilities for both students and teachers in remote areas.
The recent approval from the World Bank will enable the implementation of this comprehensive project, targeting the improvement of housing facilities, increased student enrollment rates, enhanced education quality, and the promotion of science and commerce education in secondary schools throughout the state. Additionally, the project aims to bolster the number of science and mathematics teachers, strengthen laboratory infrastructure, and provide accommodation for students from remote regions.
The state intends to develop and manage around 600 model schools from primary to secondary levels, with a particular emphasis on promoting science and commerce education. These model schools will provide trained teachers, effective leadership, and adequate learning infrastructure. Moreover, the project seeks to address the learning gaps caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers will receive training to deliver engaging and interactive classroom lessons, ensuring a fruitful learning experience for students.
The project is expected to enhance the employability of young individuals and create better job prospects within Chhattisgarh’s rapidly growing manufacturing and service sectors. It holds great promise for the state’s educational landscape, uplifting the lives of millions of students and preparing them for a brighter future.
