YouTube has recently added a new feature that lets you remix music videos on Shorts, its short-form video platform. This feature allows you to use the audio, video, or both from any music video on YouTube, and create your own Shorts with them. You can also collaborate with other creators, react to the music videos, or cut and mix different clips.
To use this feature, you need to tap the Remix button on the music video’s page, next to the Share button. You will see a floating menu with four options: Sound, Collab, Green Screen, and Cut.
- Sound: This option lets you use the audio from the music video in your own Short. You can lip-sync, dance, or do anything else with the sound.
- Collab: This option lets you create a split-screen Short with the music video. You can adjust the size and position of each screen, and choose from different layouts.
- Green Screen: This option lets you use the music video as the background of your Short. You can film yourself reacting to the video, or pretend to be in it.
- Cut: This option lets you select a 5-second clip from the music video and add it to your Short. You can repeat the clip as many times as you like, or mix it with other clips.
This feature is available for all music videos on YouTube, and it is rolling out to YouTube creators starting February 15. You can see the Remix option on YouTube when you watch music videos.
YouTube says this feature is designed to help you connect and get creative with your favourite artists and their music on YouTube. You can also watch the music video on repeat, check out other Shorts that have been created from the same song by fellow fans, and discover deep catalog cuts from your favourite artists and relive those moments by remixing them as your own.
