| Updated: June 9, 2023 18:32

Gujarat state minister Harsh Sanghavi announced on Thursday that more than 1.25 crore people will participate in festivities marking International Yoga Day that will take place all throughout the state on June 21.

The event would be conducted in Surat in front of 1.5 lakh participants and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, according to the minister for sports, youth, and cultural activities.

“CM Patel will address the people from Surat at 6:30 am before Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks to the nation at 6:40 am. Nearly 1.5 lakh people would gather for the state-level event in Surat, while 1.25 crore people will participate in Yoga Day events throughout the state, he added during a news briefing.

Senior office holders, MLAs, MPs, and ministers will participate in events in various districts. Gujarat’s state government has chosen 75 famous locations to mark Yoga Day as India marks its 75th anniversary of independence. These include the Modhera Sun Temple, White Rann of Kutch, Sabarmati Riverfront, and Statue of Unity,” he continued.

The Gujarat government has formed committees at the district, taluka, city, and town levels to oversee the organisation of Yoga Day events, according to Sanghavi, who is also the state minister of home in that state. Events will take place in villages, towns, cities, colleges, schools, health centres, police stations, jails, and other public spaces like gardens.
