9 Killed, Child Critical After Truck-Van Collision On Mumbai-Goa Highway

At least nine people died and one child was critically injured when a speeding truck collided with their van on the Mumbai-Goa highway in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Thursday morning.

Near Repoli village in Raigad, which is more than 130 kilometres from Mumbai, the tragedy happened around 4.45 am. According to Superintendent of Police Somnath Gharge, the victims, who were all relatives, were travelling in the van to Guhagar town in the Ratnagiri district.

He said, “The truck was going towards Mumbai. The victims were residents of Hedvi village in Guhagar. Nine people were killed. The deceased included a girl child, three women and five men.”

Police responded quickly to the call and arrived on the scene to begin the rescue effort. According to the official, a youngster who was critically hurt in the collision was brought to a government hospital in Mangaon. Police had earlier reported that a girl was hurt.

According to the officer, the bodies were taken to a government hospital for a post-mortem procedure.
