Lalu Yadav Family Feud: Spotlight Turns To Rohini’s Husband  Samaresh Singh

| Updated: November 17, 2025 13:57

Political unease within the Lalu Prasad Yadav household has intensified after Rohini Acharya’s sharp public criticism of her family and her declaration that she is stepping away from politics altogether.

What began as a personal outpouring has now drawn focus not only to her life in Singapore but also to the relatively low-profile figure of her husband, veteran investment banker Samaresh Singh.

Rohini — a doctor known for donating a kidney to her father — once described the act as merely giving “a small chunk of flesh.” The gesture had earned deep respect across the political spectrum. Yet her recent statements paint a very different emotional landscape. She alleged that some family members derided the life-saving transplant as a “dirty kidney,” and even accused certain relatives of telling her she had committed a “sin” by putting her father’s survival above her responsibilities toward her husband and children.

Her remarks set off a chain reaction within the Yadav family. Three of her sisters — Ragini, Chanda, and Raj Lakshmi — reportedly left the family home in Patna, signalling widening fault lines. Tej Pratap Yadav, who himself has been distant from the family for over a year, publicly sided with Rohini, further heightening the impression of internal fragmentation in the RJD’s first family.

Meanwhile, Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav have chosen not to comment, even as JD(U) leaders argue that the feud could spill into Bihar’s political arena.

Amid these dramatic developments stands Samaresh Singh, Rohini’s husband — a figure who typically avoids the political spotlight. His career in international finance presents a stark contrast to the public disputes dominating the headlines in Patna.

Who is Samaresh Singh?

Rohini married Samaresh in 2002. The son of former Income Tax officer Rao Ranvijay Singh, he moved with Rohini first to the United States and later to Singapore, where they have since built their family life. The couple now lives there with their daughter Ananya and their sons Aditya and Arihant.

Samaresh’s academic path began at Delhi Public School, RK Puram, after which he studied Economics at Delhi University. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Economics, Finance and International Business from the Delhi School of Economics, and in 2006 completed an MBA in Finance from INSEAD, one of the world’s top business schools.

Over the years, he developed a robust career across several Asian financial hubs. At Merrill Lynch, he worked on corporate finance and M&A mandates in Singapore and Jakarta, taking part in IPOs and advisory projects across sectors including natural resources, real estate, shipping, and oil and gas. He later moved to GMR Infrastructure in Singapore, focusing on investment opportunities in infrastructure and natural resource ventures.

His most extensive professional stretch came at Standard Chartered Bank, where he spent seven years as Executive Director for M&A. During this period, he executed a range of major deals across Southeast Asia — with transactions cumulatively surpassing US$12 billion — involving industries from consumer goods to manufacturing, real estate, agri-business, and natural resources.

Today, Samaresh holds the position of Managing Director for Investment Banking, Mergers and Acquisitions at Evercore in Singapore, a role that underscores his ascent within the region’s financial sector.
