The Indian embassy in Iran has issued an advisory for its nationals, urging them to exercise “utmost caution” and avoid going outdoors, as a widening military confrontation between Israel, the United States and Iran triggered retaliatory attacks and regional airspace closures across the Middle East.
In a social media post, the embassy also asked them to monitor the news. Additionally, it asked them to be aware of the happenings in Iran and wait for further guidance from the Embassy of India.
Emergency contact numbers were shared: +989128109115, +989128109109, +989128109102 and +989932179359.
Avoid Travel Unless Essential
As the situation intensified, India asked them to follow all safety instructions and guidelines issued by the Israeli authorities. This included directions from the Home Front Command. It also advised Indian nationals to avoid non-essential travel in Israel until further notice.
The advisory followed Israel’s pre-emptive military strike against Iran.
US President Donald Trump reportedly confirmed that the US was involved. He said the objective was “to defend the American people by eliminating imminent threats.”
Targets in the Israeli campaign included Iran’s military, symbols of government and intelligence targets. People in Tehran witnessed the first blast by Khamenei’s office, agencies reported.
As the strikes unfolded, sirens sounded across Israel. The country closed its airspace. The Israeli military said it had issued a “proactive alert to prepare the public for the possibility of missiles being launched toward the state of Israel.”
The official X account of the Office of the Prime Minister of Israel posted a statement attributed to Benjamin Netanyahu.
An Israeli military official said the objective is to significantly weaken Iranian military capabilities and eliminate what it considers existential threats to Israel’s national security and regional stability.
The strikes on Tehran had further consequences. Several senior commanders of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and political officials were killed in coordinated US and Israel-led strikes, an Iranian official close to the establishment told a section of the media.
However, details on the exact number of casualties or the identities of those killed were not immediately available.
Iran’s response soon reached other countries in the region. One person was killed in the United Arab Emirates after debris from intercepted Iranian missiles fell in Abu Dhabi.
Citing the UAE defence ministry, reports emerged that air defence systems had intercepted ‘a number’ of ballistic missiles fired by Iran at sites in the Emirati capital.
The ministry reportedly said an Asian national died after missile debris struck a residential area.
The UAE described the strike as “a dangerous escalation and a cowardly act”. It condemned the attack as a blatant breach of national sovereignty and international law. It warned that it reserves the full right to respond decisively to what it described as a serious escalation.
Kuwait and the UAE then temporarily closed their airspace as a precautionary measure due to “regional security situation” following the US-led strikes against Iran and Tehran’s subsequent attacks on American bases in the Middle East.
The disruption extended further. Qatar Airways announced a temporary suspension of all flights to and from Doha after the closure of Qatari airspace. The shutdown came after US and Israel-led strikes against Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory attacks on American bases across the Middle East.
The airline said it is coordinating closely with government authorities to assist passengers affected by the disruption. It added that operations will resume once the airspace reopens, though delays are expected as normal schedules are restored.
Uphold Stability
The regional fallout also drew diplomatic reactions. Saudi Arabia condemned in the strongest terms Iran’s recent attacks on the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and Kuwait.
The kingdom called the strikes a blatant violation of regional security and sovereignty. It urged all nations to uphold stability and restraint amid rising tensions in the Gulf.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry also reacted. It backed the Iranian people and blamed rising unrest on the actions of Iran’s ruling regime. It said its repression and policies have fuelled current developments and hardship.
