Cricket in India is not just a game; it is considered an emotion of the nation. From the elderly to youngsters, and from adults to children, everyone loves to play and watch cricket. Amid this craze, the IPL (Indian Premier League) has become one of the most popular tournaments among sports lovers, especially cricket fans.
Now, IPL 2026 is nearing its end. Only three matches remain, and the date for the grand finale, 31st May; has also been officially announced. Meanwhile, the venue for the final has reportedly been changed.
According to media reports, the venue of the IPL final has been shifted from Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket stadium. This decision has sparked widespread discussion because, according to the tournament rules, the final of the following season is usually hosted at the home ground of the defending champions. Since Bengaluru are the defending champions this year, many fans are questioning why the BCCI changed the venue to NaMo Stadium.
As per reports, Bengaluru was initially given the opportunity to host the final this year. However, during the preparation process, the organizers reportedly made certain demands that were outside BCCI protocols.
Furthermore, Bengaluru has also been facing controversy regarding ticket management and alleged black marketing of tickets. Due to these controversies and related management concerns, the BCCI reportedly decided to shift the final venue.
During the announcement of the finals schedule, the BCCI also shared other important details:
Qualifier 1 will take place in Dharamshala on Tuesday, 26th May.
The Eliminator will be held in Chandigarh on Wednesday, 27th May.
Qualifier 2 will take place in Chandigarh on Friday, 29th May.
The grand finale will be hosted at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, 31st May.
